I came across this nasyid video today. Its been aired on IKIM a number of times. But little did I know that this very song was sung by the very same bunch of kids that I mentored at Irysad Camp! Haha! Gosh that is so supercool, I'm actually the "Abang" of this kids who are actually nasyid superstars!
They are nasyid superstars. I'm just an abang-abang lobang la kan :P
At World Religion class yesterday, I was blessed with the opportunity to meet this girl called Mursyidah. We were discussing on Islam, and the general feel of Islam according to the students areas follows:
1) Oppressive, especially towards women
2) Male Chauvinistic
3) Capital punishment for apostasy
4) Problematic
Fortunately, Mursyidah and I were able to meet up to their challenges and 'pukol bersih' all their ignorant comments about Islam. I am not going to go thru the details of how I responded since most of it comes from content that I have written before on this blog.
But what strikes me the most is the fact that Mursyidah, being knowledgable and all, is a MUALLAF. A revert into the religion (i prefer to use the word revert than convert, because when one becomes a Muslim, he/she returns to his/her religion of fitrah or nature). And even more striking is the fact that her mother used to be a Muslim, but she became a MURTAD (Apostate) after marrying her Hindu father. And thus, Mursyidah was born a Hindu, but with Divine guidance and personal research, she found the light of Islam in her heart.
Which made me ponder on this issue. Its as if when the light of Islam is extinguished from the hearts of Non-Muslims, it is then 'transferred' into the hearts of Non-Muslims!
Islam is now the fastest growing religion. Is it because born Muslims are ignorant about the gift that they already have, such that it is snatched away from their very hearts?
Na'uzubillah!
Oh Allah! Do not let my heart deviate from Your religion! Do not extinguish the flame of Islam in my heart! Spare me from this calamity! And spare my Muslim brothers and sisters who do not know. Cultivate our hearts to love and appreciate our religion more oh merciful Lord!
There are among us who are walking towards heaven on the shiratul mustaqim, but falter and fall into hellfire even when paradise is within a step away! Do not let me be one of them oh Muqallibal Qulub! Spare me from this unfortunate fate!
The insan, as mentioned by Syed Naquib, is in essence created naturally to forget and err. The point is not to strive for perfection, but to strive to remember our state of fitrah as far as possible, even if at times we falter and forget.
Return. Taubat. Repentance.
And take away my life dear Lord, when I am in repentance, and in the healthiest state of iman..
Ku akui kelemahan diri
Ku insafi kekurangan ini
Ku kesali kejahilan ini
Terimalah
Terimalah
Terimalah, taubatku ini

Happy Birthday dearest Mum! May Allah bless you with health and iman for many years to come! And may Allah bless you with the strong affection to cook ayam masak lemak cili padi and sambal udang everyday, and not cook asam pedas or any dishes with yucky lady fingers in it :P
And as for you going thru difficult times, you are in my prayers..
